UPDATE: my second time with five minutes of artist fame!

UPDATE: five minutes of fame!

Hello! Quick post, here!

On March 19th, I published a post that was about my drawing of Psycho Les from the rap/hip hop group The Beatnuts. Here is the drawing I did in 2002:

Psycho Les Charcoal on paper. 2002.

And here are the two posts about it (both posts are identical) on WordPress and Tumblr.

Psycho Les, himself, re-Tweeted my Tumblr blog about the drawing and you can read more about that by clicking on “View On WordPress” below…

Remember The Beatnuts? Oldheads (like me…I am in my 30s) will remember. If you are a youngster who only listens to Bieber, Selena Gomez, Drake & so on, might not know The Beatnuts unless you appreciate any music done before 2005 or if you Google. The Beatnuts are a rap/hip hop duo from New York. They were quite big back in the day (1990s-2000s).
The two guys went by the names Psycho Les (Lester Fernandez) and JuJu (Jerry Tineo). Here is a quick drawing I did of Psycho Les. I was visiting family near Atlanta, during the Summer, when I did this. I was trying a new style technique that communicates nearly every detail into exaggerated line-work. Depending on how it is used, line can be very expressive and can communicate a lot of feeling.

It was featured on RAWZ (a sit of abduzeedo.com). Here is the link to that feature: RAWZ. And here is my post about the feature: HERE.

Ideas for a logo, colored pencil, 2013.

A patron, who has purchased work from me before, needs a logo for a book of poetry she is writing and wants to publish. The logos are all in a simplified style. “Simplified” style is when the parts of the subject (in this case, trees, land & water) are rendered very simply with little detail. These logos are also in abstract style-focused on only shapes in some areas. They were all done in late August & part of September. I usually do digital logos using Adobe CS, but the client wanted these illustrated.

The client liked the second image better, but she wanted more leaves, thicker tree trunk & more roots. So I added that. So that image was transformed into the image you see at the bottom. The client then let me know she wants the tree to have a more “real” look. So I have to render this tree in the style of realism or even naturalism (which takes realism a step further). Of course, those styles will require more detail and a little more time to complete.

The logo is inspired from Psalm 23, which I and many are familiar with and has inspired many with encouragement:

A psalm of David.

1) The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2)     He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3)     he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
4) Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,**
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

5) You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
6) Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

    forever.

**Psalm 23:4 Or the valley of the shadow of death

Stand Your Ground Laws basically give people these rights: 1) avoid arrest for a period of time according to stipulations within this law, 2) have the right to NOT retreat before using “deadly force”, 3) use this law to excuse a murder, 4) escape punishment. A little more than 20 states use SYG law or some form of it. Please sign this petition to have this flawed law reviewed. Thanks… PASS THIS LINK ON!
